Prefabrication and Near Zero Energy Building in Switzerland
With innovative approaches to sustainable building, it is possible to build houses and office buildings that consume no more energy than they can produce themselves. So-called “Net Zero Energy” buildings offer a solution to mitigate climate change by preventing millions of tons of emissions every year.
The challenge is: How do we make these buildings affordable? Two Swiss architects invite you to join the discussion. Roger Kurath and Sophia Slingerland will explain how they have been able to achieve higher quality and energy efficiency while significantly reducing construction time and costs. You are invited to share your thoughts and opinions in the discussion afterward.
Panelists
Roger Kurath, Assoc. AIA
Roger Kurath is a designer and Swiss architect working in Los Angeles and Switzerland. His company Design*21 offers full design service with a focus on sustainability.
Sophia Slingerland, SIA
Sophia Slingerland is the founder and owner of a small Swiss architecture firm, Atelier A+A, which focuses on low-energy technology, sustainability and design, covering both design and implementation.
The presentation will be followed by a reception. The event is free.
Besides the event, the traveling exhibition “Smarter Living: The 2,000-Watt Society" will be showcased. The exhibit shows ways to significantly reduce energy consumption through smarter living. In particular, the exhibition highlights how the requirements of the 2,000-Watt Society can be combined with outstanding architecture. It uses 18 examples to illustrate different approaches to sustainable architecture such as complex technical solutions and clever references to traditional construction methods, small buildings and very large projects, conversions and new city districts.
